I was so fortunate to have a home visiting lactation consultant when I had my first child. Her visits changed my entire parenting trajectory. Reflecting on my years of working in a paediatric hospital and having parents visit me for appointments I wondered if there was a better way. Many parents attended appointments frazzled having needed to wake a sleeping baby, feed them or listen to the crying in the car for half an hour. I felt that the home visiting element of perinatal mental health was missing. I wanted to create a service that truly served the best interests of the family.
